Changes in Bishops: Provost & Farrell

Today Pope Benedict XVI formally appointed Monsignor Glen Provost to be the third bishop of the Diocese Lake Charles, Louisiana. Since June 2005, the Diocese of Lake Charles has been without a bishop when Bishop Edward K. Braxton became bishop of Belleville, Illinois. Provost has lead Our Lady of Fatima parish in Lafayette since 1998. Photos of Provost are available at the source for this story. (Source)

In addition, Pope Benedict XVI has accepted the resignation of Bishop Charles Grahmann of the Diocese of Dallas. In July, he offered his resignation upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 75. Pope Benedict XVI has named Bishop Kevin Farrell to succeed Grahmann as Bishop of Dallas. Bishop Farrell has served as auxiliary bishop in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Washington, D.C. since 2002. (Source)

I am not familiar with either of these bishops. If you are from either of these dioceses, I especially welcome your opinions and comments.

Msgr. Provost..soon to be Bishop of Lake Charles is an amazing man of God...a most loving and paternal Shepherd to many many people here in Lafayette, Louisiana where he is currently pastor of Our Lady of Fatima Church. Msgr. Provost has been an incredible gift to the young people in this area. Lake Charles is being blessed in a huge way.

Well, sadly what Bishop Farrell says and what he does are completely different. The people of Dallas may soon discover that charm is deceptive. Under the charming Irish lilt lies the cold heart of an administrator. I am sharing this with you because it hurts so much to see him say that healing the victims of sexual abuse heal is most important.

I don't care how many awards he has received for how he has handled the abuse crisis - it's all bureaucratic ass-covering. HE DOESN'T CARE ABOUT THE VICTIMS, HE CARES ABOUT THE SYSTEM. How do I know this? I am one of the victims. I have met with him personally, face to face, one on one, twice, and have spoken to him on the phone many times.

This past November he forced me to take the Archdiocese of Washington (ADW) VIRTUS training (so that my daughter would be allowed to participate in the drama club at her school), even though i had (by his own admission) "had some trauma in the past." I almost had a nervous breakdown. Did he care? No. Did he ever respond to me? No. Did they refer me to a therapist who asked why I don't just leave the church? Yes. Did they ever respond to my request to pay for therapy? No.

"While the wicked man was before me
I kept dumb and silent;
I refrained from rash speech.
But my grief was stirred up;
hot grew my heart within me;
in my thoughts, a fire blazed forth,
I spoke out with my tongue . . .
Hear my prayer, O Lord;
to my cry give ear;
to my weeping be not deaf!" Ps. 39
